GARDEN SAFETY
Practicing garden safety during autumn is important. Use these safety tips for tackling fall clean-up around your home:
- Use a wheelbarrow whenever possible to move heavy items like bags of leaves or mulch.
- Remember to lift with your legs and not your back.
- Always have another person with you when using a ladder to clean gutters or prune trees.
- Wear gloves to protect your hands from blisters and unknown objects that may be hidden amongst leaves.
- Avoid "rakes and pains" by using an ergonomic rake when tackling your leaves. These can be found in most hardware stores and garden centers.
- Wet leaves can be slippery; wear shoes with slip-resistant soles.
- Complete a 10-minute warm-up before beginning your clean-up to help prevent repetitive movement aches and pains later.
