GARDEN SAFETY

Practicing garden safety during autumn is important. Use these safety tips for tackling fall clean-up around your home:
  1. Use a wheelbarrow whenever possible to move heavy items like bags of leaves or mulch.
  2. Remember to lift with your legs and not your back.
  3. Always have another person with you when using a ladder to clean gutters or prune trees.
  4. Wear gloves to protect your hands from blisters and unknown objects that may be hidden amongst leaves.
  5. Avoid "rakes and pains" by using an ergonomic rake when tackling your leaves. These can be found in most hardware stores and garden centers.
  6. Wet leaves can be slippery; wear shoes with slip-resistant soles.
  7. Complete a 10-minute warm-up before beginning your clean-up to help prevent repetitive movement aches and pains later.
